In Pursuit of Wisdom

The butterfly effect is the idea that small things can have non-linear impacts on a complex system. The concept is imagined with a butterfly flapping its wings in China and causing a typhoon in Texas. Of course, a single act like the butterfly flapping its wings cannot cause a typhoon. Small events can, however, serve as catalysts that act on starting conditions.  So we start going looking for butterflies before they can flap wings? :D

The Prisoner's Dilemma is a paradox in decision analysis in which two individuals acting in their own self-interest pursue a course of action that does not result in the ideal outcome. It is one of the most widely debated situations in Game Theory . The story has implications for a variety of human interactive situations. A prisoner’s dilemma is an interactive situation in which it is better for all to cooperate rather than for no one to do so, yet it is best for each not to cooperate, regardless of what the others do. I wonder the whole dillema and the game will be thrown out of the window if one of the 2 players is large hearted or sacrificial. They don't find such people existing on earth in Economics or Psychology? :o

The Malthusian Trap  or population trap argues that as population increases, the world wouldn’t be able to sustain crop production to feed the ever-growing population. It  also states the sustainability problem that income gains per person through advancing technologies are lost through increased growth in population. So should we try out reducing food intake by 25% on an average? Apart from an attempt to come out of malthusian trap, think of how much health benefit we are going to have as a civilization!? :D

The notion behind  Adam Smith's Invisible Hand  is  that individuals' efforts to pursue their own interest may frequently benefit society more than if their actions were directly intending to benefit society.  In general, the term  invisible hand  can apply to any individual action that has unplanned, unintended consequences, particularly those that arise from actions not orchestrated by a central command, and that have an observable, patterned effect on the community. So with that in mind, should we try to be selfish? :D
